Lucian’s stocking was created at his direction; he wanted a “Santa with flying reindeer, a swirling snowstorm and Vermont Christmas trees in Policeman blue”. Lynda combed many sources, found the magic number to make the graphed designs work mathematically to create his special stocking. You can do the same! Bring your creative spirit and inspiration. In this class, you will learn: Latvian braid, Picot edging and hem, corrugated ribbing, duplicate stitch, stranding knitting in the round using 2 colors, afterthought heel., standard heel flap or short row heel, wedge or star tip heel.
Necessary Skills: You must be able to knit in the round, follow basic chart and pattern directions and have an open mind to give yourself permission to DESIGN!!!
Materials: Sport weight or DK weight yarn, various needle sizes for swatching and testing fabric density. You will want a VERY dense fabric, so consider needle sizes 2-4 for sport weight or DK weight yarn.
Recommended free pattern on ravelry for inspiration: Spindleknitter's Stocking uses 100 grams worsted weight yarn and a size 5, 16" ciruclar needle.
Other resources for inspiration: Arne and Carlos (How to KNit a Christmas Stocking) uses 3 50 gram balls of DK weight yarn and a size 4, 16" circular needle
Lynda's own design, not on Ravelry, uses sport weight yarn, 100 grams of main color and 50 grams of secondary colors, size 3 16" circular
Please note: We require that yarns used in our classes are purchased from us. Students receive a 10% discount on class supplies while the class is running.
